Adam Smith and Karl Marx?
Adam Smith and neo-classical economics suggest that capital is of major importance to a progressive economy because it enhances the productive capacity of labor. (Consider, for example, how much land one farmer could plow in a day with a tractor versus an ox.) Karl Marx abhorred the concept of capital and believed that labor ought to be the determinant of all value. Explain this apparent paradox: Why would Marx be anti-capitalist if its purpose is to make labor more productive?
Karl Marx also agreed that capital is important, he just did not feel that people who provide the capital should get any payment for it.
