Flushing of fuel gas system for Gas turbines before commissioning power plant?
I am working on flushing procedure of fuel gas system for Gas Turbine. Before connecting fuel gas lines to fuel distribution system, it is necessary to flush the lines with nitrogen or fuel gas. It is concluded in our internal meeting that after flushing fuel gas lines, we have to check for cleanliness of the fuel gas just before fuel distribution system by target plate method. I would like to know that is the standard way of doing this test. What should be the pressure of N2/fuel gas. What is the target plate size. and what is the acceptable dent size, what is the material to be used for target plate etc. Can anybody help me??
I have been responsible for the flushing of many gas and liquid lines in the process of commissioning various processing plants. It has been my experience that regardless of what manufacturers or others might recommend, velocity is the key to assuring a trouble free startup.
You need to flush at a velocity at least 20 to 30% higher than any velocity that will be experienced during operation. If you flush at low velocities, there can be particles stuck in the lines that will not be dislodged until actual operation begins.
